Tour 41.  The Archipelago west of Bergen - the roundtrip

Only 15 minutes by car west and north of Bergen there is a large archipelago rich in historical sites as well modern developments. The largest islands are now connected to the mainland by bridges, but numerous ferries still ply the many fjords past beautiful small islands, narrow sounds and inlets. It is a veritable paradise for those who love the fresh sea air and old harbours and fishing villages.

 

Sund district: The municipality of Sund encompasses the southern part of the island Sotra. The municipality has an area of some 99,3 km2 and the coastline is 110 km long. It has approximately 466 islands and skerries, large and small, and the tallest mountain is Veten, with the summit at 284 metres above sea level.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tour 41.  The Archipelago west of Bergen - the walks

41A: Veten at Sund

A challenging walk to the top of Veten, the highest mountain in Sund, 284 asl. Fantastic views from the top. If the weather is good you can see 11 municipalities.

Terrain: Sign-posted footpath with varying terrain from flat to steep inclines. Some marshy areas, we recommend good mountain shoes or boots.

Time: The walk takes about 2 hours 15 minutes.
