Tour 12. Stordøya - Fitjar og Stord - the roundtrip
A beautiful tour through coastal and mountian country, extensive forests with lakes and rivers, sheltered bays and majestic skerries, farmland villages, small towns and fishing hamlets, historic sites and modern heavy industry.

Stord Municipality: has a population of around 16,000. Offshore based industry is the most important industry employing several thousand people. As the regional centre in Sunnhordland the community hosts a wide range of educational opportunities and service industries. The local flora is rich and varied and you will find a sprig of holly - which thrives freely here - in the coat of arms.
The municipality of Fitjar: covers the northern part of Stordøya and a number of smaller islands. The community centre is strategically located by the Selbjørnsfjord. King Haakon the Good fought against the sons of King Eirik here in 961 and was mortally wounded. It was said that Haakon wore a golden helmet and this can be seen in Fitjar's coat of arms. The main sources of income are agriculture, service and smaller industries.
